The book gives a clear exposition of the elements of the physics of perfect crystalline solids. In discussing the principles, the author aims to give students an appreciation of the conditions which are necessary for the appearance of the various phenomena.
A self-contained mathematical account is given of the simplest model that will demonstrate each principle. A grounding in quantum mechanics and knowledge of elementary facts about solids is assumed.
This is therefore a textbook for advanced undergraduates and is also appropriate for graduate courses. Read more Read less. Kindle eTextbook Store. Customers who bought this item also bought. Indeed, it scarcely needs my commendation: it is already being widely used as a graduate text on both sides of the Atlantic.
This updated classic textbook gives a clear exposition of the elements of physics of perfect crystalline solids.

Received earlier than expected. Excellent classic text but Kindle edition has very tiny equations that cannot be resized.
I am using the latest Kindle for PC reader on a Windows 10 laptop having a 15 inch screen with x resolution. The equations are very tiny even when using the full screen reading mode. The equations can be barely read even when using a magnifying glass. When using a magnifier so that I can see individual pixels, I can discern that very few pixels are used to represent the smaller symbols so that the smaller symbols are smeared and indistinct no matter how high a magnification is used.
Awesome packaging. This is the best book to read for graduate level solid state physics. Load more international reviews. I bought two books for a class in Solid state physics.
This one and Introduction to solid states physics by Kittel. The latter was much better than this green covered one, which makes everything very confusing. It might be just me but I would not recommend it. You've read the top international reviews. Back to top. Get to Know Us. English Choose a language for shopping. Length: pages.
