Cheers, Andrea. Not sure if there is a Panasonic part in their 'AN' series. I would guess these are some kind of collaborative design or OEM concept. Whatever, these chips performs well in my testing and are highly recommended for low cost FM front end with excellent signal handling characteristics. THe built in RF amp offers good gain and sensitivity however, it is pretty much by-passable as you look onto the block diagram. For eg, a separate cascode or FET rf section can be tried out. The sony radio uses a one chip radio function without a separate FM front-end.
The mosfet as a mixer looks amazing in performance, and it will simply blow BJT related notorious mixing problems away without any critical wiring or performance tuning. And was also appeared very adaptive to LO drive levels wherever it is. There were no additional RF front required for local reception, the simply floating gate 1 of mixer with a wire attached to it seemed very sensitive to RF signals.
